Open House at Stock Pot
10/17/2017 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Stock Pot aka "Polka Dot Kitchen!"
342 Pearl St
Starting Tuesday, November 29th
11:00AM to 12:00PM
Each Tuesday from 11am to 12:00pm, we hold a standing open house for people interested in applying to join our Culinary Incubator, which comes with a rental contract to use our licensed commercial kitchen and access to continual in-house consulting services related to business development, accounting and bookkeeping, permitting and regulatory support, and marketing and brand identity.
We start with a quick overview of our services and application processes, followed by a tour of the facility, and then an optional Q&A with our operations staff. Interested applicans are strongly encouraged to stay for the Q&A. Preferential consideration will be given to those who bring application materials with them to Open House, including:
- A one-page BUSINESS PLAN
- A one-page OPERATION OVERVIEW (process flow for food, delivery process, etc)
Please bring a hat to wear and any application materials you wish to prepare. Those who come with application materials are always given the highest consideration.
Entrepreneurs at all stages are welcome, especially if you (a) are passionate and (b) arrive on time! ;)
FAQs
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
We are a 10-minute walk from the Malden Center T Stop (Orange Line). For cars, we ask that you park on the street on Pearl Street, though NOT directly in front of the building (we enforce commercial loading zone procedures at all times). It is rare to have to park more than 2 blocks down from our building. Please make sure not to block our neighbors' driveways.
What should I bring to the event?
A hat or other hair covering/restraint, as required by the food code; please ensure that long or loose hair is fastened or able to be tucked into a hairnet.. As much information about your process and business plan (or ideas about what it might be, even if you don't have it yet).
What can't I bring to the event?
Please do not bring young children or other vulnerable persons who may be at particular risk of injury. Every visitor is responsible for following instructions, using common sense, and maintaining the safety of themselves and the people around them.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Our staff is reachable at info@stockpotmalden.com or at 781-605-1426.
Can I bring my business partner/spouse/best friend?
Sure, but please include them in the RSVP to guarantee their space, and please limit your party to 2 people. We have to cap the size of touring groups for your safety and that of our users, but we don't want to have to turn anyone away -- please leave room for everyone!

MATV Journalism 101
10/17/2017 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Tuesdays, September 26, October 3, 17 & 24, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
The demand for quality citizen journalism has never been greater. With the newspaper business struggling and new forms of digital media emerging, local writers and reporters are stepping forward. Would you like to join their ranks? In this course, we will review and practice principles of journalism and basic reporting; we will explore traditional and trusted forms of newsgathering as it applies to the new digital landscape. Students will improve their writing and reporting skills and see their work published. This is a very hands-on course with in-classes exercises and feedback from both instructor and classmates. The class is structured both for the beginner and more advanced students. Participants in this class are encouraged to join our team of journalists for MATV's Neighborhood View. Monthly editorial meetings and ongoing training and support are features offered by this program.
Instructor Stephanie Schorow is a veteran journalist who has worked for the Boston Herald, the Boston Globe, the Associated Press and numerous publications, both print and online. She is a professional writing teacher at Regis College and is finishing her eighth book on local Boston-area history.
Workshop Fee: $40
Participants must become members of MATV if they are not already. Also, attendance in an MATV Orientation is required. The next Orientation will be offered Wednesday, September 20, from 6:30 - 8:00pm. See info below.
Reserve a slot in any of these workshops by emailing anne@matv.org. You must pay the fee by mail or in person (in advance of the class) to officially register.
