Shirece M. Perry to Receive the Wally Kountz Award at NAACP annual Freedom Fund Breakfast. The Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual Freedom Fund Breakfast at Anthony’s at 105 Canal Street in Malden. We will be honoring, local trailblazer Sheriece M. Perry with our annual Community Service Award. The award is given the name of our branch’s first President, Wallace H. Kountze. Each year the branch recognizes a person within our jurisdiction of Arlington, Medford, Everett, Winchester and Woburn who exemplifies the quality of character of our first branch President through demonstrated leadership within the community, being a tireless volunteer of one’s time, experience, and education. Sheriece has provided state-wide oversight of the Court Service Centers, in which a large population of the litigants served are low income, limited English proficiency, low literacy, or suffer from mental health or substance use disorders. Additionally, Sherice works on a variety of access to justice initiatives for individuals who cannot afford to hire attorneys. Sheriece was also appointed by Massachusetts Governor Baker to join the Boston Finance Commission. Rev. Jacqueline Blue, Minster of Discipleship at People’s Baptist Church in Boston and a retired Lieutenant Colonel will serve as our keynote speaker. Mayor Gary Christenson of Malden, Mayor Stephanie Burke of Medford, amongst others will also say some words. Reserve a seat at our breakfast by mailing a check for $60 per person to MVA NAACP, P.O. Box 560132, Medford, MA 02156 or by contacting Ed Ligon at (617)-680-4571 or Pearl Morrison at (617)-803-3549.
