Recycling Day
9/20/2014 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a recycling day for a variety of items including tires, televisions, computer monitors and car batteries on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Residents of Malden will be able to bring recyclable items to the DPW, located at 356 Commercial Street from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Paint will be recycled from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Latex, oil and acrylic paints as well as stains and varnishes will also be accepted. However, antifreeze, household hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals or other hazardous materials will not be accepted.
Residents are also encouraged to bring their fluorescent bulbs to the DPW to be inserted into the “Bulb Eater” which crushes them for recycling. The old process of dropping off bulbs, boxing and storing them for pickup has been deemed an ineffective and costly method. Each barrel holds 1,500 crushed bulbs!
New this year, the DPW is offering free of charge the recycling of Styrofoam products. Refoamit, LLC will be on hand to accept Styrofoam products including #4, #5 and #6 foam, foam egg cartons, hot cups, coolers, packing blocks, foam plates, take out containers, produce and meat trays with the recycle symbol in the triangle. All food product containers must be rinsed before recycling.
FEE SCHEDULE:

Truck tires: $20
TVs and computer monitors: $5
Car batteries: $1
