Malden YMCA is getting ready to run an online auction fundraiser.

Starting on November 21, 2015, Malden YMCA will be auctioning off a number of fun and unique items to bid on to raise money for our organization - and the more items we have the more money we can raise, so we're asking for your help.

Give a little and get a lot in return.
Whether you have 1 item or 100 to contribute, your participation is an invaluable part of our fundraising efforts. By donating an item or service directly online, you'll be helping to raise money for our organization, and you'll receive a mention on our site that can link back to your own web page. To become a sponsor of our online auction contact Sam McAndrew at 781-324-7680 x217 or email at smcandrew@ymcamalden.org

Candle Light Vigil
11/22/2015 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
GRASSROOTS GROUP FORMED IN MALDEN TO TAKE ON ADDICTION
"Gathering the community together to heal and remember those we’ve lost is ground zero in fight” says Group
Malden is one of the highest ranked cities for overdose fatalities in the state of Massachusetts. Far too many lives are lost daily, and many of our community members are deeply affected by this deadly epidemic. As a result of this crisis, Malden Overcoming Addiction, a community-led group, was formed in July of 2015. Made up of parents, grandparents, activists, and people in recovery, the group’s mission is to end the stigma associated with addiction, connect the community with addiction support and recovery services, and to fight to eliminate overdose fatalities in Malden. “We have recognized that eliminating the stigma is a large part of the work we have ahead. Many family members privately grieve the loss of their loved ones and even more are afraid of seeking help for fear of judgement and suffer in isolation.” Says Malden native and one of the groups organizers, Katie Powell Bourdeau.
In an effort to collectively come together to mourn the loss of the lives lost due to addiction and reduce the stigma of this awful disease, Malden Overcoming Addiction is hosting a candle light vigil. The vigil will take place on
Sunday, November 22nd at 5pm at Malden High School (on the steps of the Jenkins Auditorium).
The vigil program will include Malden residents, city officials, local performers, and a reading of the names.
Immediately following the reading of the names will be the indoor portion of the event which will feature a variety of addiction informational resource tables, an Overdose Prevention & Narcan Training being presented by Lynn Healthy Streets, and a discussion facilitated by the Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition
It is important to honor those lives lost in Malden. If folks would like their loved one’s name read aloud at the vigil please send them to maldenvigil@gmail.com. Additionally if you wish to have them included in a tribute slideshow please send their picture to along their name and date of passing to maldenvigil@gmail.com.
If you have any questions about Malden Overcoming Addiction or this event you can email maldenovercomingaddiction@gmail.com or call Amy at : (617) 771-2722.
