Screening
10/8/2014 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Encore Screening of "Turn the Page"
MATV, in collaboration with the Malden Public Library, will hold an encore screening of the half-hour video
"Turn the Page: Dina Malgeri and the Malden Public Library" on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. The video features an interview with MATV's former Library Director Dina Malgeri, who retired in 2013 after a 40-year tenure. She shares the library's fascinating history, details about its unique architecture and stories about many key pieces in its art collection.
The video incorporates archival photos, news clippings, and video footage to bring the narrative alive. The result is a story, rich with visual details, that honors the treasure that is Malden's Converse Memorial Library, and a fitting recognition of Dina Malgeri, who played a major role in its historic preservation.

Homecoming Breakfast
10/19/2014 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
A Homecoming breakfast will be catered by Anthony's of Malden, Sunday Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the school's cafeteria to fete Nedlam's birthday
Nedlam is turning 55, and the Malden High School Alumni Association is planning to give the school's mascot a big birthday party at its 7th annual Homecoming celebration.
And just who is Nedlam? Nedlam is a lion, sort of. Actually he is a lion costume usually worn by unknown persons to rally support at MHS events, particularly sporting contests. Nedlam - Malden spelled backwards - made his first appearance in the school's yearbook, the Maldonian, in 1959, according to MHSAA archivist Anthony Dickinson, Class of '66. Nedlam's image is front and center on the cover of the 2014 Maldonian, symbolic of his prestige in the school community. Homecoming coordinator Patty Kelly, Class of '80, suggested that since this is Nedlam's 55th birthday, it would be fitting to make the mascot the theme and focus of this year's Homecoming event.
Cost is $25 per person.
Reservation forms are to be posted onwww.maldenhighalumni.com.
Sponsored by the MHSAA, the Homecoming allows graduates from through the years to gather in the cafeteria and reminisce about old friends and days gone by, all while enjoying great food and entertainment. For more information, contact Patty Kelly, Class of ’80, at 781-665-2543 or pkelly6385@aol.com, or MHSAA George Holland, Class of ’55, at 781-321-4217 or atbmw0324@msn.com.

Working Animals: The “Invisible” Labor Force
Tuesday, October 21st at 7 p.m.
Malden Public Library, 36 Salem Street, Malden, MA
Join us for “Working Animals: The Invisible Labor Force” on Tuesday, October 21, at 7 p.m. at the Malden Public Library, 36 Salem Street, Malden, MA. Local historian Dee Morris examines the lives of the working animals that helped to build communities, haul goods and provide transportation. Learn about the fire horses that protected homes and businesses – and much more. Join us for an appreciation of their unsung heroes of Malden and nearby cities.
This lecture is part of the ongoing series “Industrial Eden: The Legacy of Haywardville,” a yearlong celebration of this now vanished mill village. Haywardville was a mill village located in Stoneham on the border of Melrose, Malden and Medford. Straddling Spot Pond Brook, the village was the site of early industrial development which later blossomed into larger factories. The best known was the Rubber-works which was developed by Nathaniel Hayward. The mills ultimately closed and the site was taken for use as the Middlesex Fells Reservation. All buildings were relocated and the site restored to its picturesque appearance which it maintains today. For additional programs see www.preservation-collaborative.com/haywardville.

When the Boston Printmakers Association took a trip to Iceland this past August, there was no telling what was to come of it. Now, over two months removed from the experience, they have collaborated with members of the Icelandic Printmakers Association to create an exhibition centered around society's emphasis on the printed image.Continental Drift: Printmakers Converge showcases the similarities as well as the differences that exist between these two groups of artists and their experiences on two different continents, ultimately forging a bridge between two cultures. The more than 60 featured prints in the exhibition at Belmont Gallery of Art feature a variety of ancient and modern printmaking techniques, including etching, Chine-colle, silkscreens, monoprints, woodcuts, intaglio, lithography and digital and electro-photo processes. "The exhibit's title, Continental Drift: Printmakers Converge, reflects the action of cultures, and continents, coming together via printmaking—colliding, if you will—and the drifting apart," says Boston Printmakers artist Bob Tomolillo, organizer of the group's trip to Iceland. The inspiration harnessed from the journey was then processed into works of art, first exhibited in Reykjavik two months ago and now displayed in Belmont and Newton. The Scandinavian Cultural Center's Nordic Hall in West Newton will host a Continental Drift companion exhibit through November with a collection of recent prints by Icelandic artists "inspired by landscapes and human nature."

I’m showing three prints in the following show. If you are near Belmont and looking for something to do, join us from 6-8PM.
Best wishes and have a good weekend!
