Malden Reads is hosting a special tea tasting and one-hour class on Pu-Erh tea, which is the rare and mysterious tea from the Yunnan Province in China that is highlighted in the 2019 Malden Reads book selection, "The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane" by Lisa See.
   The event will be held at MEM Tea in Davis Square, where participants will be treated to different examples of Pu-Erh tea and light refreshments while learning from Suanne Scalise, the MEM tea education director.
   The cost for the class is $20 per person, to be paid at MEM Tea at the time of the class. Space is limited, so please email maldenreads@gmail.com to hold your spot. You could also email us to arrange to carpool.

The Malden Public Library will hold a Birthday Celebration of the Library’s 140 years of service to Malden residents.  The celebration will be held on February 14th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the historic Converse Memorial Building.  The celebration will include an exhibition of photographs, scrapbooks, and equipment from the early days of the Library; and light refreshments will be served.

The Malden Public Library began in one small room in the old Town Hall, formerly occupied by Murray & Wiley, Dry Goods Store; before moving to the Converse Memorial Building in 1885.  Malden Public Library was in the Old Town Hall Building (1879-1885)

Join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, from 6:00-8:30pm at the Malden Public Library.  We will be showing the recent 2018 version of the film, A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, and Sam Elliott.
   Jackson Maine (Cooper) is “a musician [who] helps a young singer (Gaga) find fame, even as age and alcoholism sends his own career into a downward spiral.”
   Rolling Stone writes, “…Cooper and Gaga knock it out of the park.  Their movie, one of the year’s very best, is a modern musical classic.”  Mike LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle writes, “I just loved it.  It’s a film that combines an overall feeling of modernity and relevance with the glow of old-time glamour.”  Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 90% approval rating.
