 Join a lively discussion of this year‘s Malden Reads book selection at the Dockside Restaurant, 229 Center St. in Malden on Wednesday, February 12 from 7 to 830. The discussion of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury will be led by Anne D’Urso-Rose, MATV Associate Director and Malden Reads co-facilitator. If you'd like, tag your favorite passages in the book and feel free to share during the discussion. Pizza and soft drinks will be served.        Imagining Future Cities by Shuyi Wang
What will cities be like in 50 years? Will traffic jams and pollution still be an issue? Researchers in the City Science group at the MIT Media Lab is trying to piece together the landscape of future urban life by rethinking the functions of our cities.

Teenager Mike feels smothered by his overprotective mom’s extensive safety rules, until he uncovers a horrifying curse that puts her in immediate danger. With the help of a mysterious shut-in named Robbie Zygowski (voiced by Dr. Katz’s Jonathan Katz), Mike must decide whether or not he can break his mother’s rules to save her life.
       Coffee with David Moore by Daniel Black
A documentary on the artist David Moore as he struggles with his urge to make things. The film captures his evolution of his abstract painting style as he recovers from a severe car accident.
       Jesseca Ferguson: Cabinet of Curiosity by Roberto Mighty
A biographical profile of renowned artist and photographer Jesseca Ferguson who works with photographs and collaged “photo objects”. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe.
       Charles Coe: Man of Letters by Roberto Mighty
A profile of writer and musician Charles Coe, author of two books on poetry: “All Sins Forgiven: Poems for my Parents” and “Picnic on the Moon” both published by anthologies, including Poesis, The Mom Egg, Solstice Literary Review and Urban Nature. His novella “Spin Cycles” was published in November, 2014 by Gemma Media. Charles is in a labor union for freelance writers.

Community Dinner at Ethiopian Restaurant

Come enjoy the exotic taste and presentation of Ethiopian cuisine with other Malden Reads enthusiasts. Ethiopian food is served in a shared platter with both (or either) vegetable and meat dishes atop injera, which is a large sourdough flatbread. In lieu of utensils, the flavorful food is scooped up with pieces of injera. Honey wine is the popular accompaniment. Beer and soft drinks are also available. The dinner will include a traditional coffee ceremony.

Join Sen. Jason Lewis and the Malden Education Association on Wednesday, February 26, at 6pm for a community bill signing of the Student Opportunity Act and Community Meeting.
 Come together to celebrate this landmark education funding legislation and discuss your aspirations/priorities for the new funding that is coming to the Malden Public Schools as a result of the passage of the Student Opportunity Act. This landmark legislation would never have passed in Massachusetts had it not been for educator, student, and community organizing/advocacy. Your voice is important and we need your feedback to bring back to the school district administration before they submit their plan, as required by this new legislation, to DESE.
