The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry invites you to attend a free patient and family education symposium Patient and Family Education Day: Substance Use Disorders. They will also learn about society's response to the opioid crisis and what it teaches us about marijuana. The afternoon will feature a panel of patients and families speaking about their perspective on substance use, as well as presentations focusing on psychiatric illness and addiction, safe medication storage and disposal, risk factors for overdose, and a demonstration on how to use Narcan, a medication now widely used to block the effects of opioids after an overdose. This event will share a vision of modern addiction treatment that is preventive, patient and family centered, and oriented towards recovery and physical health. This program is made possible through the generosity of Elissa Freud and Steve Willis.

I feel like it’s really important for our high school community to know the reasons behind this huge event.
1) We are using this as a music and arts Festival. We believe that the arts are a way to bring unity to a community. We are trying to run an event that will bring out all members of the community, regardless of culture, race, language or socioeconomic status.
2) We are planning to run this event every year as a fundraiser. There are many arts and music programs in our district, especially at the elementary/middle school grades, that do not get the proper resources they need to teach their class. Some classes need clay, sheet music, recorders, markers, etc. Our goal is to be able to provide small necessary resources for all music and arts classes in the district.”
