4th Annual Lantern Walk at Fellsmere Park
6/1/2019

FoFH's 4th Annual Lantern Walk - our signature yearly event to honor the legacy of Fellsmere Park and the former Malden Hospital - to remember those who established a place for health and re-creation for our communities and to continue that legacy in the present and future. Festivities will commence at 5:30 pm to dusk, when we'll walk around Fellsmere Pond with our beautiful lanterns, a sight to behold and a fun way to celebrate our community spirit! We will have lantern making on-site and you're encouraged to get there by 5:30 pm to allow the lanterns time to dry before the walk -or- you may purchase a premade lantern for $5.
Artist Ginny Remedi-Brown will be hosting a lantern making workshop in advance of the event on May 20, 2019 from 2 - 7 pm at 21 Ivy Road in Malden. The workshop is free although a small donation is suggested, not required, to cover supplies. Please RSVP to RemediDesigns@gmail or call Ginny at 781-640-4741 for more info.
If you would like to host a table at the Lantern Walk or sponsor the event through a donation for that purpose, you may email us or contact Prisco Tammaro directly at 857-488-0577. Walk to Support Kids in Need
6/22/2019 10:00 AM - 10:15 AM

Housing Families’ staff is taking to the streets – or more accurately, sidewalks – to raise money to benefit its G.R.E.A.T. Youth and Families Program (GYFP) that provides families experiencing or at-risk of homelessness with counseling and after-school tutoring.
Saturday, June 22, members of Housing Families’ staff will be participating in a 5K Walk for GYFP within Malden, with the goal of raising $100,000 to support the healing and growth of families that are experiencing the toxic stress caused by housing instability.
“Our services are powerful and transformative,” emphasized Barbara Schwartz, the Director of the G.R.E.A.T. Youth and Families Program. “One kid said ‘GYFP is officially the best place ever!’ It’s because for the first time he feels safe, has had academic success, and feels confident and strong in his ability.”
According to the National Center on Family Homelessness, homeless children are four times as likely to have a developmental delay. With frequent housing changes, homeless children often only fall farther behind in school.
In Fiscal Year 2018, 90% of the families served by the agency lived in Malden, Everett, Revere, Medford, and Chelsea.
If you would like to donate to Housing Families’ 5K Walk for GYFP, please visit its website: https://housingfamilies.org

  350 Cross St  Malden

About Housing Families: Housing Families was founded in 1986 by community members concerned about the growing crisis of homelessness for families in Greater Boston. Since then, Housing Families has grown into one of the largest providers of family shelter in Massachusetts and has served over 5,000 families in its 33 year history.
Housing Families’ central mission is to help families build the skills and understanding they need to make a successful transition into their own home, and to prevent any recurrence of homelessness. To learn more about Housing Families visit www.housingfamilies.org
