Local bands will be making the most of the summer heat on the following Tuesdays from 6-8 PM at City Hall Plaza, 200 Pleasant Street. Additionally, from 5:30-6:00 PM, the talents of Malden’s youth musicians will be featured, so come on down!

Ashanti Munir Kicks Off Live on the Lawn Concert Series
The Malden Public Library’s “Live on the Lawn” Summer Concert Series kicks off on Wednesday, July 8, at 7:00 pm featuring soul and jazz singer Ashanti Munir. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and experience a great night of outdoor live music at the Malden Public Library (36 Salem Street).
From her roots in Roxbury and just singing for the sheer delight, Ashanti Munir presents soulful lyrics and music of the seventies and eighties, and original songs, with a smooth and sultry voice that has helped her attain two top 10 UK Soul CDs and spreading popularity throughout the United States.
Ashanti Munir debut CD titled “Balance.” exploded onto the London, UK music scene on the strength of its leadoff single titled “I’m Staying Home Tonight.” After joining forces with Di Lee and her UK promotion team at Soulchoonz, “Balance” received airplay in Europe, Australia, Japan, Brazil and the United States. Ashanti has performed in NYC, Las Vegas, England (London, Warrington & Manchester), and throughout New England. Ms. Munir released her sophomore CD titled “Soul of a Woman” in August of 2010. It was instantly picked up by radio stations in London and remained in the Top 30 at Solar Radio through December of 2010. “Soul of a Woman” was voted the #27 Soul CD of 2010 by Solar Radio. (London) and voted the #46 Soul CD of 2010 by Starpoint Radio’s UK Soul Chart. Ashanti was nominated a 2010 Viewer’s Choice Award for the category of “Best New Artist.” She also starred in her first music videos for her songs “So Smooth” and “Until U.” Ashanti has been blessed to have met and/or shared the bill with many great soul and jazz artists. The Live on the Lawn Series continues throughout the summer. The Malden Public Library’s “Live on the Lawn” Summer Concert Series continues on Wednesday, July 22, at 7:00 pm featuring the band Four Guys in Tuxes. This group’s versatility and energy makes for great entertainment with its performance of jazz, swing, rock and blues songs. Requests will be encouraged and be sure to wear your dancing shoes because you will be dancing and singing along with this talented group of performers.

The Malden Police Department will host an Overdose and Narcan Administration Training on Thursday, July 23rd from 6-9 PM at the Malden Senior Center, 7 Washington Street. Residents are invited to learn about Opioid overdose prevention, recognition of overdose symptoms and how to respond to an Opioid overdose with Narcan administration.
