Charlie Farren has long been known for great songs, great singing, and for outstanding live solo acoustic performances. Alone onstage with acoustic guitar in hand, Charlie captures an audience with his unique delivery, insightful lyrics, memorable songs, soaring vocal, and subtle yet innovative guitar style. It wasn't always quite so subtle, as Charlie formed this original self-taught style with a history of successful, hard-crunching rock bands throughout the 1980s.

9 PM - Headliner Comedian and Singer Joey Voices with
Special Guest Emcees Paul Gilligan and Dave Russo
Paul Gilligan is one of the most requested comedians in Boston, bringing down the house with an attitude first developed as a high school class clown, and with material culled from his life as a blue collar worker, husband and father. In addition to headlining in Boston
clubs, golf tournaments, fundraisers, roasts, and other events, Gilligan is a regular performer at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas.

Recently named “Best Male Comic” in the city by the Boston Examiner, Dave Russo has been a mainstay of Boston comedy for the last fifteen years. As co-host of NESN’s Dirty Water TV, he produces a regular comedy series, in addition to reporting on the best of Boston night life. He has appeared on The E! TV series “The Entertainer”, NBC’s “The Today Show,” FOX 25 with Gene Lavanchy, “The Phantom Gourmet,” and was hand selected by the producer of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” to perform on NESN’s Comedy All-Stars.

Mayor Christenson to Appear on WBZ Centro to Promote Malden’s Second Annual Latino Festival
On Saturday, August 23, 2014, Mayor Gary Christenson will appear as the featured guest on WBZ TV Centro. Centro, a show which airs on Saturday mornings at 7:50 AM on WBZ Channel 4 is hosted and produced by Yadires Nova-Salcedo and is geared towards educating the community about the culture and issues of the Latino community. Upon learning that Malden will host its’ Second Annual Latino Festival on Saturday, September 13th at 5:00 PM at City Hall Plaza, the Centro host reached out to Mayor Christenson to learn more about the upcoming festival and about his connection to Malden’s Latino community.

As Malden is the second most diverse community in the state, it has been a priority of Mayor Christenson to openly embrace Malden’s many cultures. He was especially pleased last year when Gloria Salazar of the Malden Latino Council approached the City’s Community Outreach Manager Karen Colon Hayes about the idea for a Latino Festival. The Mayor recounted the great success of last year’s festival which was attended by more than 500 people who were entertained by many talented dancers and singers. Authentic Latino food vendors were on hand to serve traditional South and Central American fare. “The performances could have gone on all night,” said Mayor Christenson. “Everyone in attendance had a fantastic time!”

Malden’s Second Annual Latino Festival, which kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month will take place on Saturday, September 13th at 5:00 PM at City Hall Plaza, 200 Pleasant Street. The event is being organized by the Malden Latino Council. All are encouraged to attend the free festival showcasing vibrant authentic Latino music, dancing performances, cultural art and delicious food from local food vendors.

Meeting on Beebe Traffic
8/27/2014 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, August 27th
Beebe School Auditorium
Friday August 22nd
at 6:00PM
Mayor Gary Christenson will hold a meeting for residents on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the Beebe School Auditorium, 401 Pleasant Street to further discuss the proposed MassDOT project improvements to the intersection of Highland Avenue, Elm Street, and Pleasant Street.
This is a second meeting on the City’s eligibility for significant funding for infrastructure improvements to walking and bicycling access in the area around the Beebe School. As discussed at the July meeting, the transportation improvements proposed involve the intersection of Pleasant Street, Highland Avenue and Elm Street. The project would include new traffic signals at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Highland Avenue, as well as new ADA compliant sidewalks in the immediate area. The project also includes the installation of a sidewalk across Elm Street at Highland Avenue and this portion of Elm Street would become a dead-end, access would be from Pleasant Street only.
Most of the residents at the July meeting were not in favor of the Elm Street closure. The Mayor indicated he would have a follow-up meeting with residents after he had further discussions with MassDOT. Therefore, representatives of MassDOT have agreed to present additional information regarding this project and have a further discussion about Elm Street on Wednesday, August 27th at 6:00 PM at the Beebe School Auditorium, 401 Pleasant Street.
