ONGOING EVENTS IN MALDEN

  • Al-Anon meeting - If someone's drinking is bothering you, there is a place for you to come. Every Wednesday at noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at Florence and Washington streets in Malden, there is a supportive meeting. There is also a Thursday meeting, same place and time. Both meetings are open and welcome to all.
  • Backgammon Club - The New England Backgammon Club holds backgammon tournaments one Sunday each month at 1 p.m. at the Dockside Restaurant, 229 Centre St. Entry fees are $20-$60, and prizes are given out. The group also holds smaller tournaments on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Boards are provided.
  • Bread of Life Benefits at the Dockside - Every Tuesday from 6p.m. to 9 p.m., the Dockside Restaurant, 229 Centre St., donates 10 percent of all sales, including take-out, to the Bread of Life in Malden.
  • Cyber Café back to regular hours - The Cyber Café @ Malden Square, 110 Pleasant St., is back to its regular hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekdays only.
  • Donate surplus books - The Malden Department of Public Works and Hands Across the Water, a nonprofit agency, are collecting surplus books and sending them to libraries and schools in needy community around the world. General reading books, textbooks, encyclopedia sets, hardcover and paperbacks are welcome.
  • Elliott Club Meetings - The Elliott Club for the Handicapped, Inc. has resumed monthly meetings at Anthony's in Malden. To become a member, call Phyliss Drexler at 781-438-3687 or Arthur Downing at 781-933-6241.
  • English Literature Program - The Moroccan American Civil Society presents an English literature program Thursdays, 6:30-8 p.m. at 110 Pleasant St. third floor. The annual membership fee is $25.
  • Grandparents Raising Grandchildren - Are you raising a grandchild and need support? Every third Wednesday of each month, the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Malden Support Group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Come and meet other grandparents in a warm and friendly atmosphere.   • Malden Everett Family Network Programs - Malden Everett Family Network will offer the following free programs to families living and/or working in the towns of Malden and Everett. Registration is required unless otherwise noted.
  • Malden Sketch Group - One of the longest-running life drawing groups featuring nude models in the Boston Area, the Malden Sketch Group has met weekly for the last 12 years. Artists of all levels of ability and experience are welcome and may participate on a regular or drop-in basis.
  • Malden Arts Network Welcomes Postings - MaldenArtsNetwork is dedicated to building connections within the Malden Artists' Community and beyond. Postings will include announcements of the city of Malden's venture in creating artist live/work studio space, as well as events and opportunities concerning arts and culture in Malden.
  • Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings - Does someone you love have a problem with addiction? Is their illness making you crazy? You can get through this and regain your serenity, even if they have not stopped using. Nar-Anon helps the family and friends of the user attain serenity and a more normal home life.
  • Overeaters Anonymous - A 12-step program for recovery from overeating, anorexia and bulimia will be held Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 529 Eastern Ave. For more information, call 781-641-2303.
  • Spanish/Portuguese Language Morning: Play group for Spanish/Portuguese speaking toddlers ages 15-36 months on Fridays, 10-11:30 a.m. Structured playgroups: for children ages 4 months through 3 years, offered in collaboration with Tri-City and Criterion Early Intervention programs. Tumbling Toddlers: Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m., for children ages 25-36 months. Toddlers will learn forward rolls, cartwheels and other movements. For more information, call 781-322-2277.
  • 'Stitch n' bitch' at Hugh O'Neill's - Did you know that Malden has a weekly knitting group? The Malden "stitch n' bitch" meets every Monday night, and is open to all knitters, crocheters, needlepointers, and anyone else with a fiber project. The group is open to men and women of all ages.
  • St. Luke's Thrift Shop - St. Luke's Thrift Shop is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., inside St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 388 Lynn St. in Linden Square in Malden.
  • The Single Life - The Single Life provides single adults, 45 and older, the opportunity to meet and establish friendships in a relaxed atmosphere.
