Mayor Gary Christenson recently held his Annual Senior BBQ under the outdoor tent at Anthony’s of Malden. More than 425 seniors from around the City attended the event and enjoyed a fun evening filled with delicious food, music, raffles and prizes. Mayor Christenson welcomed State Senator Jason Lewis, State Representative Steve Ultrino, District Attorney Marian Ryan, as well as several candidates running for elective office. City Council members Debbie DeMaria and Ryan O’Malley and School Committee member Rob McCarthy were there helping out along with Fire Chief Kevin Finn, Police Chief Kevin Molis and other city employees.
The Mayor was particularly thankful to the youth volunteers who came out in full force. Members of the Malden Teen Enrichment Center, the YMCA Leadership Corps, the YWCA Task Girls and students from the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program worked tirelessly during the event to ensure the evening was great one for the seniors. A big highlight at this year’s event was that Atria Maplewood Place generously provided cannoli for all in attendance!
The Mayor thanked the many Malden businesses who helped make the evening a great success with their generosity and support by donating gift cards and baskets for raffles and recognized the work of all who volunteered as crucial to the effort. “Our seniors look forward to this event every year and I couldn’t be happier with the support of the community to ensure that they have a wonderful evening,” said Mayor Christenson.
