Dog Park Dedication

Posted on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 12:00 AM by Mayor's Office

The Pine Banks Board of Trustees were recently joined by Mayor Gary Christenson, Melrose Mayor Gail Infurna, and City Councillor Debbie DeMaria to celebrate the opening of a beautiful new dog park at historic Pine Banks Park. The initiative was a true collaborative effort and included Mass Development, East Boston Savings Bank, Hayner-Swanson Engineers, Nangle Consulting Associates, Activitas, Inc., RAD Sports, Heimlich Landscaping along with contributions from the Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation and the Pine Banks Park Foundation.

Pine Banks Board of Trustees President Henry Kezer said that the undertaking was initiated by a need in the community and that he often receives requests for more dog parks in the City. The 40,000 square foot amenity provides designated areas for large and small dogs and allows pets and their owners ample room for unleashed recreation, socialization and enjoyment. The park will be available for use by Malden and Melrose residents and their guests and will be open from sunrise to sunset. Pets must wear a municipal license and rabies vaccination tag and owners are required to clean up after their pets and to monitor them when in the park.

“When Pine Banks Park benefactor Elisha Converse bequeathed this 107-acre parcel to be ‘forever used as a public park’ I’m sure he was also thinking about our four-legged friends,” said Mayor Gary Christenson. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this project.”
