Committee on Walkability

Posted on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 12:00 AM by Mayor's Office

Mayor Gary Christenson is seeking Malden residents to serve on his Advisory Committee on Walkability. In 2012, Mayor Christenson established the Committee to gain input from residents on their ideas and creative initiatives to make Malden a top walkable city in Massachusetts. Since then, the Committee has made great strides in recommending safety improvements to signals, crosswalks, curbing and intersections, was instrumental in improving Malden’s snow ordinance and installed artist Frank Stella Way-Finding signage in the downtown area. The Committee’s overall goal is to make recommendations to the Mayor that increase walkability by making the City more appealing and safer for pedestrians while enhancing the quality of life.

The Committee meets the third Tuesday of the month (except for July and August) from 6-7 PM in the Mayor’s Office, 17 Pleasant Street, 4th floor. Prospective members should be passionate about walking and should be willing to participate in research projects outside of meetings a few times a year.

To apply, please tell us why you would like to be a member of this Committee and provide your resume to:kmanninghall@cityofmalden.org by Tuesday, January 29th at 4 PM. All Committee members are subject to CORI approval.
