Stop & Shop on strike

Posted on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 8:41 AM by Malden Homepage

Stop & Shop union workers walked off the job and went on strike Thursday, April 11, amid an ongoing contract dispute.
Locals of the United Food & Commercial Workers union representing 31,000 Stop & Shop workers in New England have been negotiating a new contract with Stop & Shop representatives since Feb. 14, the UFCW said.
The workers walked out at 1:15 p.m.
The strike includes workers at Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Stop & Shop, which operates more than 400 stores in the northeast, issued the following statement in reaction to the strike:
“Given that negotiations with assistance of the federal mediators are continuing, we are disappointed that the UFCW chose to order a work stoppage in an attempt to disrupt service at our stores. Stop & Shop has contingency plans in place to minimize disruption.”
Stop & Shop has a location in Malden at 99 Charles St.
