Developers recently broke ground on a four-story, 80,000-square-foot office building at the site of the former Ryan Family Amusements. The building at 11 Charles St. will house financial services firm Cantella & Co., Inc. on the top floor and have restaurant and retail space on the ground floor. The middle two floors will be office space available for leasing. "I am very pleased that a financial services firm like Cantella & Co., Inc. has chosen to call Malden home, and even more thrilled that they have chosen to build an exceptional and unique building that will enhance the neighborhood and attract other businesses," Mayor Gary Christenson said in a statement.
The finished space will include onsite parking and be a five-minute walk from the Malden Center T stop. It was designed using heavy timber, lowering its carbon footprint and making it the first timber office building in the Northeastern United States, according to a press release.
In the short time we have been here, we have found Malden to be very welcoming and a great fit for us," Jennie Devlin, president of Cantella, which has been renting space at 350 Main St., said in a statement. "Our employees enjoy an abundance of after-work options, and we know this is the place we want to be for the long-term." The building is expected to be completed in late 2020
