UPCOMING CITYWIDE EVENTS:
- The School Committee will be meeting on Monday, February 22nd and Monday, March 8th beginning at 6 pm in the City Hall, Council Chamber, 3rd Floor. The meetings will also be televised live on local access.
- Housing Families and Bread of Life will be teaming up for the second straight year to host "A Night of Caring" on Thursday, February 25th from 6-9 pm at the Irish-American Hall, 170 West Street. - The Ferryway School Council will meet on Thursday, February 25th beginning at 7 pm in the school library.

- Asian Spectrum's Annual Chinese New Year Celebration - Year of the Tiger will take place at the Beebe School, 403 Pleasant Street beginning at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 27th.

- The Malden Arts Salon will meet at 7 pm on Thursday, March 4th at the First Parish in Malden, 2 Elm Street.
- Malden Historical Society's 24th Antique Show at St. Paul's Church, 26 Washington Street will take place on Saturday, March 6th from 10-3 pm.
- Bike-to-the Sea will be hosting its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 9th at Spuds Restaurant and Pub, 22 Lincoln Avenue, Saugus from 6:30-8:30 pm.

CITY COUNCIL NEWS: The City Council's Charter Reform Committee will be reconvening to start up the process of making changes to the city charter. The meeting will take place Tuesday, Feburary 23rd at 5:30 pm in the Council Chamber, 3rd Floor, City Hall and can be viewed live on local access...The Public Safety Committee will be meeting with the Fire Department for an overview of incidents/activities for 2008-2009 on Tuesday, Feburary 23rd at 6:00 pm in the Council Chamber...The Ordinance Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Council Chamber on how the newly implemented rental unit inspection ordinance is proceeding and proposed changes to the administrative procedures of the Sign Design Review Committee...Finally, the full City Council will meet on the Residency Employment Construction Ordinance as it pertains to the Malden High School renovation project. The meeting will take place Tuesday, Feburary 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Council Chamber...The Public Works Committee will meet on Tuesday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm to follow up on some of the goals outlined at the January meeting of the committee, including how to improve our street sweeping program and options to expand the raised crosswalk concept at 630 Salem Street to other senior buildings.

The Malden community continues to rally around the residents who were displaced from the Mystic Side Apartments on Pleasant Street as a result of a terrible fire on Saturday, January 9th and is participating with the cities of Medford and Everett in aiding the people of Haiti from the devastating earthquake disaster. For residents still wishing to donate to one or both of these events, please visit the city's website, www.cityofmalden.org. Condolences to Gail Wise on the passing of her brother Charles Wilson...The Bell Rock Safety Plan continues to be in effect. We will have our follow up meeting on the changes in the Bell Rock, Medford, and Green Street area on Wednesday, February 24th at 6:30 pm at the Ferrway School Library, 150 Cross Street (enter Walnut Street side)...The petition to place two townhouses at 126 Cross Street was passed with conditions on Thursday, February 18th by the Board of Appeal. I spoke in favor of the proposal...Congratulations to the Ferryway School on a great International Food Festival. The place was packed and the food was delicious!
